About the Leonkoro Quartet: Quartet in Residence series

In 2023 Leeds International Concert Season partnered with the triennial Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition to award a prize-winning quartet a residency in Leeds for three years. Every three years we’ll welcome a new Quartet in Residence. We’re delighted to welcome back the Leonkoro Quartet for the second year of its residency.

This exciting quartet, founded in Berlin in 2019, swept the board at Wigmore Hall’s competition in April 2022, winning first prize and nine of the twelve special prizes on offer. The ensemble is a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist 2022–24.

During 2023/24, the Leonkoro Quartet will debut at the Berlin Philharmonie, Kölner Philharmonie, Flagey Brussels, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus Wien. The quartet will also perform in renowned festivals including the Rheingau Music Festival, String Quartet Biennale Paris, and the Heidelberg Fruehling.

The Leonkoro Quartet is a Pirastro Artist and Henle App Ambassador.

A note from the Leonkoro Quartet

We’re so pleased to be returning to Leeds as Quartet in Residence! We were astounded by the warm welcome during our inaugural season in 2023 and look forward to bringing three completely different programmes to audiences in 2024.

As a young and fairly new ensemble we’re still finding our place in the somewhat overwhelming world of the string quartet. It’s been so nice to have a familiar place, venue, and audience to return to in between the busy periods as we tour across the globe.

We hope to see many of you again and look forward to sharing our music with you.
