Originally from the North West, music has always been a deep routed passion of Lewis Wood’s ever since he started learning the clarinet from a young age. Lewis is now in his final year of study at Leeds Conservatoire, under the tuition of Hannah McCabe, and has a strong interest in contemporary clarinet music.  Lewis says ‘The clarinet has been an important vice in my life as it is something I can focus on with great intention and self-discipline.’ In this recital, he is performing three contemporary pieces of music that explore a combination of jazz and classical elements.

Louise Hales
is a classical soprano from Pembrokeshire, Wales. At the age of sixteen, having always been passionate about music, she decided to study Performing Arts. She has performed in numerous Musicals and plays, notably, Into the Woods, Les Misérables and The Importance of Being Earnest. She regularly performs in concerts and is also in demand as a singer at weddings.

Her most recent appearances include Alice, Through the Rabbit Hole for Leeds Conservatoire and The Medium’ with Leeds Student Opera Society, where she performed the role of Monica. She is currently in her third year at Leeds Conservatoire, studying with Carolyn Hargreaves. Here she has had the opportunity to take part in masterclasses led by acclaimed artists, such as Ailish Tynan. These opportunities have further deepened her love for performance – and, looking to the future, she hopes to study for her Masters Degree in Performance in Classical Voice.

Christopher Pulleyn studied English Literature at York University, after which he gradually began to develop a career as a collaborative pianist and has since gone on to work with a number of major arts organisations across the country, including Opera North, Leeds Conservatoire, Huddersfield Choral Society, Royal Northern College of Music, the Hallé, Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne, and the BBC. He was the Junior Fellow Répétiteur at the RNCM for 2019-2021, acting as principal Répétiteur for the college’s opera productions, including Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Mansfield Park and Flight by Jonathan Dove. He studies with Michael Dussek, Head of Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Chris works regularly with Opera North, initially supporting their many outreach and education programmes, and as the principal accompanist for Opera North’s celebrated Youth Ensembles. More recently he has worked as a répétiteur on a number of their productions including Orpheus, Parsifal, Carmen, The Magic Flute, and the UK Premier of Kevin Puts’ Silent Night.
