A rich and varied programme turning the spotlight on some of Kaleidoscope’s wonderful wind players in music from every century from the 18th to the 21st. There’s sprightly classicism and neo-classicism from Stamitz and Poulenc, lyrical romanticism from Clara Schumann, and Mark Simpson’s dazzling Nachtstück, premiered in 2021 by tonight’s performers. To conclude, one of Brahms’ greatest works, written in memory of his mother, which takes us on a profound journey from darkness to light.
