Formed over 130 years ago through public donations given by the townsfolk of the adjacent villages of Brighouse and Rastrick that face each other across the River Calder in West Yorkshire, Brighouse & Rastrick Band is regarded by many as the best and most consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. The band has attracted a formidable reputation for highly entertaining concerts and many notable triumphs to its credit in the highly competitive contesting field. Today, it continues to be supported through public subscriptions and its own fundraising efforts.

Gareth Brindle began playing euphonium at the age of eight.  He developed his trade playing for a number of North West Bands throughout his teenage years. In 2001 he made the move onto baritone and quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest soloists of his generation. He enjoyed great success winning back-to-back National Champion Brass Band Finals of Great Britain with the Williams Fairey Band. In 2004 Gareth joined Black Dyke Band as its Principal Baritone. During his time at Black Dyke he won the National Championship of Great Britain a further three times and added multiple British Open and European victories. In 2012 Gareth started his conducting career at Rainford Band after retiring from playing following nine successful years at Black Dyke. Under his leadership the band enjoyed its most successful period in the band’s history and achieved one of the fastest rises to the Grand Shield in its 100 years. Gareth left Rainford Band in 2019 and has since been involved with a variety of bands. Away from brass bands Gareth works for Naxos Ltd, one of the world’s leading classical music companies.
