Bach’s splendid A minor Prelude and Fugue makes a welcome return to our programmes after many years’ absence as today’s curtain-raiser as do a number of component movements of du Mage’s Suite d’Orgue – the Grand Jeu of which was made famous after the Second World as the “opener” in many recitals by the master of the mightest “Mersey Sound” of all – Dr Noel Rawsthorne, Organist of Liverpool Cathedral from 1955 to 1980.  French Romantic favourites rub shoulders with two enjoyable contemporary works within a tradition framework from Iain Farrington.
