Dr Trotter’s annual visit is a real highlight of the season. In 2018 he presents a kaleidoscopic range of repertoire from Sweelinck in the 16th and early 17th centuries to Ad Wammes in the present one.
The major bookends of this recital are defined by Bach’s stupendous Wedge Prelude and Fugue in E minor and by Edwin Lemare’s transcription of Wagner’s stirring Overture to his opera Rienzi of 1842, first heard 175 years ago. At the centre of the recital is the first of the four movements of Elgar’s extraordinary and powerful Organ Sonata in G composed in 1895 for a visit to Worcester Cathedral by a group of American Organists.
