Ravel’s enchanting Ma mère l’Oye (Mother Goose) quotes magical fairytales and nursery rhymes, while Debussy’s Ibéria is a three-movement whirlwind trip through partying Spanish streets.
Beethoven starred as soloist in the premiere of his fourth piano concerto in 1808. The concerto is a sunny one with between-the-lines melancholy, but closes with a fiery finale.
