In line with national guidance to manage the impact of Coronavirus in Leeds, Leeds City Council (LCC) has closed a large number of buildings and facilities to the public. These include Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre and Pudsey Civic Hall. The safety and wellbeing of staff and the people of Leeds demands that we now stay at home, unless it is absolutely essential to go out, in order to protect our NHS and save lives.

These closures will remain in place until the end of April. LCC will continue to monitor developments and follow government guidance with regard to when it may be appropriate and practical for us to reopen. In the meantime we are developing our online content and we will endeavour to engage with as many people as we can through our social media channels.

As a result of the closure period all of our events from now until the end of April have been cancelled or postponed. During this unprecedented time, the loss of ticket sales for cancelled events in the closure period and beyond across all our venues is of huge concern, particularly as we look to the future and the redevelopment plans for Leeds Town Hall. It is with this is mind that we ask if you would consider making a donation to help sustain Leeds Town Hall – perhaps the most iconic and best loved building in the City, and one of such historic value to the people of Leeds and beyond. If preferred, tickets holders can choose to add credit to their account to use on a future performance. Refunds (minus the booking fee) are also available.

A member of our Box Office team will be in touch with you shortly if you have bought tickets to any of our events. If you have any queries please contact:  and allow our team to either respond via email or call you back. Should this not be possible, please call the team on 0113 376 0318 (Mon-Fri between 10am and 5pm), but please be prepared for a short wait as our Box Office team are now working remotely. Voicemail messages will be collected on a regular basis and someone will get back to you at the earliest opportunity. We would like to reassure every ticket holder that they will be contacted either by email, telephone or post. We won’t forget you.

Events after the current closure period are being reviewed on a weekly basis and we will keep you informed of any changes and their implications as soon as we can on our websites and social media channels.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support at this unprecedented time. We look forward to welcoming you back to our events in the future.

Keep safe and well.

With kind regards

No series focussing on the music of Schubert would be complete without a concert exploring the catalogue of the Master of Song. Through the composition of his more than 600 Lieder, Schubert developed the form in terms of dramatic content, harmonic innovation and pictorial description. As Dvořák said: “Schubert created a new epoch with the Lied... All other songwriters have followed in his footsteps.”

“We can look forward to a veritable feast of song with the wonderful Irish soprano Ailish Tynan. Ailish has chosen some of Schubert’s most famous Lieder, alongside a cycle by the other great Romantic Lied composer, Robert Schumann. She will be joined by Katherine Spencer for the beautiful song of Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock and some rarities for the same ensemble by Schubert’s contemporary Louis Spohr.” Sam Haywood - Artistic Director.

This concert will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3's lunchtime slot, between 22-25 January 2019.
