South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is a versatile musician who is interested in exploring the capacity of the cello across genres, from collaborating with beatboxers, folk and world musicians to giving concerto performances and solo classical recitals.
Abel has worked as a soloist with numerous orchestras throughout South Africa, having performed a wide range of concerto repertoire with Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic, Johannesburg Philharmonic, Cape Town Philharmonic and Randburg Symphony Orchestras.
Making his mark in some of London's prestigious venues, Abel made his solo debut at Wigmore Hall as part of the RNCM Gold Medal Winners’ concert and is looking forward to playing Elgar Cello Concerto at Cadogan Hall with The New London Orchestra.
Abel has appeared with the Multi-Story Orchestra working closely with cellist Matthew Barley to make classical music accessible for a diverse audience. He is also a member of the Chineke! Orchestra playing at Royal Festival Hall and in the BBC Proms.
