About Us

What is Leeds International Concert Season?

Leeds International Concert Season is run by Leeds City Council and is the largest local authority music programme in the UK. We programme more than 200 concerts a year in the Leeds area.

Our Annual Programme

The highlight of each season is the International Orchestral Series which sees national and international orchestras visit Leeds Town Hall on Saturday nights.

The season also includes the UK’s finest brass band series at Morley Town Hall, international chamber music at The Venue, Leeds College of Music, plus a programme of jazz, world and rock at Leeds Town Hall.

Free Concerts

A unique series of sixty lunchtime chamber and organ recitals offers the most extensive programme of free music in Britain. Music moves outside in the Summer for bandstand concerts in Leeds parks.

Festivals and Competitions

We also organise the triennial Leeds Conductors' Competition which supports young British conductors, and work in partnership with Leeds College of Music and Leeds Jazz to produce FuseLeeds - a biennial festival of new music.

New Music

Leeds International Concert Season is an active commissioner of new music. Recent commissions include:

Carl Davis: Hold On! The Anthem of the Leeds Rhinos (2006)
The world-famous film composer was commissioned to write an anthem celebrating the Rhinos’ achievement in becoming Carnegie World Club Champions in 2005.

Michael Nyman and Hanif Kureishi: I was a total virgin (2006)
A collaborative new work by the British composer and author, performed by the London Sinfonietta during FuseLeeds06.
