In order to stay at home as much as possible and to control the virus and save lives; our concerts have been cancelled through to the end of July, as well as the remainder of the Summer Bands in Leeds Parks 2020 series. This enables us to protect the safety and well-being of our audiences and staff as we manage the ongoing impact of COVID-19 in Leeds.

Support Leeds Town Hall

The loss of ticket sales for cancelled events during these unprecedented times is of great concern, particularly as we look to the future and the redevelopment plans for Leeds Town Hall. With this in mind, we ask if you would consider making a donation to help sustain Leeds Town Hall – perhaps the most iconic and best loved building in the city, and one of such historic value to the people of Leeds and beyond. If preferred, ticket holders can choose to add credit to their account to use on a future performance. Refunds (minus the booking fee) are also available.

If you have bought tickets to any of our events a member of our Box Office team will be in touch with you shortly. If you have any queries please contact: boxoffice@leeds.gov.uk and allow our team to either respond via email or call you back. If that’s not possible, please call the team on 0113 376 0318 (Mon-Fri between 10am and 4pm). There may be a short wait as our Box Office team are now working remotely. Voicemail messages will be collected on a regular basis and someone will get back to you at the earliest opportunity. Please be assured that you will be contacted either by email, telephone or post. We won’t forget you.

Until it is safe to welcome audiences back to our events we’ll continue to share content on our website and social media channels, where we’ll also keep you informed of any changes and their implications as soon as we can.

Thank you so much for your understanding and continued support during these difficult times. Keep safe and well.

With kind regards
Leeds Arts Events & Venues Team

Meet Solo Euphonium with Brighouse & Rastrick Band

We caught up with Solo Euphonium player of the Brighouse & Rastrick Band, Chris Robertson, ahead of the band's performance at Morley Town Hall on Saturday 4 April 2020 as part of the Leeds Best of Brass 2019/20 series.

How long have you played with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band?

I joined just over a year ago, in September 2018.

What's the best thing about playing in a brass band?

Learning and developing the ability to play a musical instrument!

What’s your highlight so far with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band?

Playing at the European Championship in Switzerland, or winning the Yorkshire Area!

How did you get involved with playing a brass instrument?

The local brass tutor Mike Robertson came to our primary school when I was ten and asked who wanted to play, I raised my hand, and fifteen years later here I am.

What was your earliest musical experience?

Sang Little Donkey at my local Sunday School when I was about 5 in the Nativity play. Mum cried.

Who has been your biggest influence?

I couldn’t pick just one!

Do you enjoy practising or find it a chore?

Never a chore, and always with a goal.

Were your parents musical?

Not particularly, none us had ever heard of a euphonium back then at least!

What piece of music do you most enjoy playing?

Solo: Arban Carnival of Venice
Band: Anything by Gordon Langford

What’s the best and worst things about performing?

Best: Applause
Worst: Pressure

What can the audience expect from a performance by the Brighouse & Rastrick Band?

A good mix original works and arrangements, with a wide variety of solo pieces from many of our principal players. Brighouse have a vibrant sound and show plenty of emotion and character throughout our concerts. Hopefully a bit of comedy too but some serious repertoire for the traditional audience member, and a lot of fun!
